The government of the Kamchatka Territory, together with colleagues from Belarus, will study the issues of locating port facilities for Belarusian cargo and the possibility of developing logistics centers. This was discussed during a working meeting between the Governor of Kamchatka Vladimir Solodov and the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Pyotr Parkhomchik, the press service of the government of the Russian region reports. As Petr Parkhomchik noted, the Republic of Belarus and Kamchatka increased foreign trade turnover by 9% at the end of last year.
Vladimir Solodov, in turn, noted the advantages of the Northern Sea Route (NSR), which is already a competitive route, “and for the logistics of the Republic of Belarus it can have a radically new meaning.”
It should be noted that recently several Russian regions have announced that they are studying the issues of locating port facilities for transshipment of Belarusian export cargo, including the Leningrad and Arkhangelsk regions and the Primorsky Territory.
Currently, foreign trade cargo of Belarus is delivered through 20 Russian ports in the Baltic, Azov, Caspian and Black Sea basins. The potential volume of Belarusian cargo in Russian ports is estimated at 30 million tons per year. At the same time, earlier President Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly stated the need to increase the number of Russian ports used by the republic for transshipment of its cargo.
